Improving Reading Comprehension through Oral Language Intervention
Dr. Petersen

60-80% of fourth grade students across the world do not read at a proficient level. A major solution to this “reading” crisis entails an explicit, integrated, multi-tiered focus on oral language. This seminar will make a strong case for the current, pressing need our schools have for a greater focus on oral language progress monitoring and multi-tiered systems of language support. Participants will learn about the most recent research demonstrating a causal relationship between oral language growth and reading comprehension outcomes and will be given specific training on the provision of multi-tiered contextualized language intervention that can be implemented by a single SLP with their caseload or implemented by teachers and other general and special educators across an entire school district.
