Power Up Speaker

Teresa Ukrainetz, PhD, S-LP(C)

My name is Teresa Ukrainetz. I am a Professor, and serve as Assistant Department Head and SLP Division Chair in the Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University. My M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology is from University of British Columbia and my Ph.D. is from University of Texas at Austin. I am a Canadian-certified SLP and an ASHA Fellow. My research and scholarship pertain to school-age language intervention and how to combine systematic skill treatment with purposeful communicative contexts. My work is driven by the need for effective, practical interventions that tap the distinctive expertise of SLPs across the broad and intersecting domains of speech, language, cognition, and literacy. I have investigated standardized testing, dynamic assessment, phonemic awareness, narrative discourse, and the role of the school SLP. My work has appeared in many journals, including Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools and Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research. I have two books: School-age Language Intervention: Evidenced-based Practices and Contextualized Skill Intervention: Scaffolding PreK–12 Literacy Achievement. My current interests are in expository strategy intervention for students with language learning disabilities in later elementary and secondary grades.
